First off, I must say that if you are someone who isn’t open to new ideas or thoughts, then Rob Bell’s Velvet Elvis probably isn’t the book for you. If you want a self-help guide or a book that will give you all of the answers to life, then this is probably not the book for you..

Instead of giving “this is the way it is” advice, Rob Bell uses both historical evidence and Biblical passages to suggest that a healthy Christian life is one that is full of questions.

Throughout this book, Bell argues that one should never stop seeking the answers to life’s most pressing questions, because these questions not only strengthen our relationship with God, but also our lives in general..

While his thoughts and ideology may seem harsh to some, it is important to realize that Bell is trying to convince his readers to open their minds and seek a deeper connection with Jesus.

Rather than rely on chapters, Bell presents his arguments in movements.

In the first Movement, Bell discusses the Christian faith and uses metaphors to make it easier for one to understand.. One of the most touching illustrations came when Bell compared Christianity to a brick wall.

Bell says that it’s dangerous because much like removing bricks from a wall will weaken the wall, some will consider their faith weakened if an element is removed.

Bell argues that this logic is not healthy, because if removing one part of your life causes your faith to be shaken, then your faith wasn’t very strong to begin with.

Make no mistake; this book will challenge you in ways that you have never been challenged before. It made me reconsider some of the aspects of my life and helped me refocus my attention to God.

While some may be turned off by Rob Bell’s contemporary style, it is hard to ignore that he is bringing a new perspective to the Christian world..

His writing style takes a bit to get used to, but the younger crowd will appreciate his more contemporary tone.
